עד היום, אחרי כל כך הרבה שנים שעברו מאותו יום נורא, שבו נעלמת לנו לנצח, בכל פעם שאני פותח את הטלפון שלי ורואה את הפרצוף המתוק שלך, לבי נעצר בקרבי ודמי קופא בעורקי.
את קיימת בתוכי. כל הזמן. 59 שניות בכל דקה, בכל שעות היום והלילה, בכל פעם מחדש. הזמן אינו מרפא את הפצע, והקלות הבלתי נסבלת של המשך הקיום נותרת חידה נצחית. בלתי מפוענחת. לעולם. ואני כל הזמן מתגעגע אליך. אל החיוך הממזרי שלך, אל החדר המבולגן שלך, ואל החברות שלך, שכולן בוגרות היום, עם ילדים משלהן. ורק את נותרת ילדה צעירה. לעולמים. ילדה קטנה שלא עשתה רע לאף אדם.
מאז שהלכת השתנו חיי לגמרי. מן הקצה אל הקצה. הפכתי להיות אדם אחר. בכל בוקר אני טס על האופנוע השחור שלי לבית ג’אלה לפגוש את אחי בסאם. גם הוא איבד את בתו האהובה בת העשר, עביר, ושנינו, מאז שנפגשנו, הפכנו ליותר מאחים. שנינו רצים מאוזן לאוזן, ומלב אל לב, מדברים ומנסים לשכנע את היהודים והערבים ואת כל העולם, שמה שקרה לילדות שלנו אינו גזירת גורל, שאפשר לעצור את מעגל הדמים, ושאין שום דרך אחרת זולת דרך ההידברות והפיוס.
