THE PARENTS CIRCLE - FAMILIES FORUM - BEREAVED PALESTINIAN AND ISRALIES CALL FOR THE IMMEDIATE END TO THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS AND TO THE VIOLENCE
WE WHO HAVE PAID THE HIGHEST PRICE IN THIS BLOODY CYCLE OF VIOLENCE , TURN TO ALL WITH AN URGENT PLEA NOT TO ADD MORE VICTIMS TO THE BEREAVED FAMILIES ON BOTH SIDES.
The ongoing violence has already extracted a terrible price for the bereaved families at the Parents Circle - Families Forum , and hundreds of families, children, parents, sisters, brothers, wives, and husbands. Nothing can ever replace them. From the depths of our pain we urge the leaders on both sides to end this conflict with an agreement. Surely a compromise would be preferable to more bloodshed . In the long run the oppression and collective punishment of people who are fighting for their freedom and independence can only lead to more violence.
Ten days have passed since the disappearance of three young Israelis and the tension and worry for their safety is on the increase. The search for these three whose only crime is that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time should encourage all towards a nonviolent search without punishing those who have no part in the disappearance, and without unnecessary hardship and hatred. Collective punishment is immoral we cannot keep thousands of people under closure and expect that this will not lead to more anger and hatred.
Even under these extreme circumstances creating fear and uncertainty and violence, the Parents Circle - Families Forum continues with its work on the ground towards reconciliation, understanding and the removal of demonization on both sides. As warriors for peace from both sides we continue our work towards the ending of the conflict.
The Women's group of the Parents Circle launched their latest book which includes the story of loss and the secret recipes of Palestinian and Israeli female members of the group. Unfortunately the Palestinian representatives of the group were not able to attend so Sabrya Fretek sent this moving message:-
"I am so sorry that I am unable to be with you today, Nablus is under closure, and it would be dangerous to try and get out. I am even more saddened by the fact that the powers that be will not allow us to go on with the noble work we do to make a difference by ending the violence. This cooking project was for me, an incredibly important experience. Getting out of my little kitchen into a larger culinary world increased my knowledge and capabilities and self- worth.
This is the place where I found friends and partners much more than just the conventional cooking and recipes. We will continue to work together until we find the recipe to protect the future of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren".
All of the members if the Parents Circle - Families Forum both Israeli and Palestinian , wish with all of their hearts that the three young boys will be speedily and safely returned to their parents and that the pressure on the Palestinian citizens will stop. We offer our deep condolences to the family of Jihad Mohammed Dodin aged 15 from Dura, his only crime was that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. We also wish for a speedy solution of the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike who are being held without trial.
